Northrim Donates $5,000 to Eagle River Community Campus

Northrim staff was on hand May 2 at the UAA Chugiak-Eagle River Campus for the ribbon cutting of their new Alaska Middle College School (AMCS). ACMS is Alaska's first public high school in which 11th and 12th grade students are simultaneously enrolled in both high school and college courses.

The program started in fall of 2012, providing Mat-Su Borough School District students with high school diplomas and Associate of Arts degrees. All college courses at AMCS are regular, non-remedial, classes taught by University of Alaska faculty. Students earn both college and high school credit for successful completion of these courses. Courses in subject areas not taught by UAA faculty, but which are required for high school graduation, are taught by Mat-Su Borough high school teachers. All of the classes are taught at the UAA Chugiak-Eagle River Campus (CERC).

There are 42 Mat-Su Borough high school students currently enrolled in the 2012-2013 inaugural class and enrollment for the next school year is anticipated to double. Click here for a video about the program.

After the ribbon cutting and a reception in the new AMCS student union, Northrim staff joined University of Alaska President, Patrick Gable and Cynthia Rogers, CERC Director for a Q&A style lunch at the campus where Northrim Bank presented the campus with a $5,000 contribution.
