About

Employee Involvement

We are deeply committed to the communities where we do business. We show that commitment through our active lending programs, community involvement, and our ongoing support to local programs throughout Alaska. We encourage our employees to be engaged in community activities and organizations that fall within Northrim’s contribution focus areas as well as organizations that are personally significant for the employee.

Northrim coordinates volunteer opportunities that allow employees to share their expertise with others throughout the community. Employees are also encouraged to serve leadership roles in nonprofit organizations.

Teach Children to Save

Teams of employees help local students learn the importance of saving for the future in the American Bankers Association (ABA) Teach Children to Save program. The lessons include games and activities about how interest makes money grow, how to create a spending plan and differentiating between needs and wants. The lessons are aimed at enhancing youth financial literacy and money-management skills.

School Business Partnership

Northrim Bank is a proud sponsor of various local schools throughout Alaska. Employees work closely with neighborhood schools to encourage students to become engaged in their community and school. Some of the many programs that Northrim supports at local schools include back to school picnics, good citizen assemblies, math nights, carnivals, and general classroom help.

Financial Literacy Classes

Throughout the year, Northrim employees teach courses in the community to encourage individuals to be more savvy when it comes to personal finances. Courses are offered through local non-profit organizations to aid their clients and/or the community. There are a variety of courses that teach everything from the basics of how to open a bank account and how to start saving to what is needed to start investing or how to purchase your first home.

Paint the Town

Anchorage employees participate each year in NeighborWorks’ Paint the Town event. Volunteers from around the bank join together and help paint the home of an individual or family. Volunteers also do small chores around the outside of the house to help the homeowner. The team for Paint the Town always fills up quickly and Northrim employees love to participate each summer.

United Way

Northrim has a strong history with United Way. Each year, the bank raises funds to support United Way in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su, Southeast Alaska and King County Washington. Not only do employees give generously through employee donations, but Northrim matches 50% of their contributions. A volunteer campaign committee helps plan exciting events throughout the campaign to encourage engagement. Since the bank was founded, Northrim and its employees have contributed over $1 Million to support United Way.

Business Plan Competition & Alaska Business Week

Northrim not only supports local schools through the school business partnerships, but also encourages the entrepreneurial spirit by participating in the Business Plan Competition and Alaska Business Week. Both programs provide individuals with the opportunity to jump into the business world, create business plans and learn what it takes to create and run a successful business. Employees volunteer by sharing their expertise and helping judge the competitions.
